  • Making Peace with the Monday Syndrome

On Monday morning when the alarm rings, I feel like two people live inside me. One says, “Come on, get up, a new week has started,” while the other pulls the blanket tighter and bargains, “Just five more minutes…” Somehow those five minutes turn into forty, and I can’t quite explain how.

While preparing breakfast, my phone battery is at three percent, and my energy feels like two percent. I look in the mirror expecting to say, “I look great today,” but the expression staring back is more like, “Let’s not talk until I’ve had coffee.”

During the day, motivation suddenly strikes; I make a to-do list and believe life is finally getting organized. Just then someone messages, “Are you available?” and all my plans disconnect like an unstable internet connection.

By evening, I decide, “Tonight I’ll go to bed early.” Yet I find myself at 12:43 a.m. watching “Paranormal events” videos.

I think this is exactly what adulthood is: constantly making plans, breaking them, and trying again the next day. But that’s the beautiful part too; even if we stumble a little every Monday, we still get the chance to start fresh each week.
